Aranal

I was in Costa Rica a while back and stayed at a resort near the volcano, Aranal. Throughout the stay, the summit was covered by clouds and at night you could make out the top with its red glow seen easily in the night. On the last day, I got up early to see that the clouds had parted some and the top of the cone was visible. Its funny how clouds seem to embrace the peaks of mountains, only to disperse at times to show everyone how magestic they are. All you have to do is wait.

Cody is sober now for almost 11 months. Everything has fallen into place and while there are times that I see clouds hovering about, our conversations always disperse them. Everthing has a duality about it, and while good and bad coexist, the reality of each is based on your preception, nothing more. When I preceive clouds they are there. When I don't see them, they do not exist. Somewhere I read that a watched pot never boils, because you are watching it not boil. Intuitively I know this is correct. Practically, it is difficult to grasp.

Marvin returned yesterday from Atlanta for a visit, and these two best friends were off in the early am to take a golf lesson, and then work out at the gym. Cody has completed all of his course work for his diploma and continues to work his job, his steps, his program and continues to bring joy to our lives, and to those around him.

The Way that can be experienced is not true;
The world that can be constructed is not real.
The Way manifests all that happens and may happen;
The world represents all that exists and may exist.

To experience without abstraction is to sense the world;
To experience with abstraction is to know the world.
These two experiences are indistinguishable;
Their construction differs but their effect is the same.

Beyond the gate of experience flows the Way,
Which is ever greater and more subtle than the world.

It’s a lesson every addict needs to learn: Drug addiction never goes down without fight. The addiction recovery process, in the end, is and must be a trying ordeal; no one achieves meaningful drug recovery, you might say, without struggling a little along the way.

I am in awe of the teens who have been able to attain recovery and pray for others to find their way. It is difficult and one will always be tested. A recovering addict once told me he did not have to fight the urge to use 24 hrs a day, just from the moment he awoke until the moment he falls asleep.

Thank you both for your thoughtful and helpful response.
